A special Art Mural project kicked off the 2017-18 school year at La Tercera with art that engages all our students and enhances our school’s creative environment. Panels give visual voice to “everything we love about STEM” and reflect real learning activities/approaches undertaken in the classroom: focus is life-science. Class by class,
students worked with Artist Janet Self to create STEM inspired “mural” panels. Overall, 14 classroom-specific plus two entryway panels with all students, were completed and are installed throughout the school campus. Final result is about a 100 foot “Mural” made up of multiple two sided panels installed around the campus.
The murals answer our school guiding STEM question; "How might we make STEM our identity," developed with the assistance of Parker Thomas and using the Design Thinking Process from the Stanford Design School.
Thank you to PTA for supporting this work, which is done on Tyvek, a synthetic ‘paper’ that can stand up to outdoor installation; Nova Color Acrylic paints are used, notable for their high quality and durability in murals world-wide Janet Self is engaging our Eagle students in the art process, drawing on teamwork and STEM learning strategies using creative tools and implements.
Make sure to stroll our entire campus to enjoy these amazing panels. Mrs. Hodge
